The Bible is an anthology of 66 works, many based upon an oral history beginning thousands of years ago. It begins with the account of the creation and God’s first faithful, Abraham. It is a story about salvation and freedom which includes the creation of a new civilization, Christianity, which came to dominate because it took the best from five previous civilizations: Sumerian, Egyptian, Hebrew, Greek, and Roman. It is part of God’s plan that the invention of books (movable type) in the 15th century provided the basis to establish a purely Christian civilization. Books and tracts were published for 10% and less of the cost of hand-written copies. All Christians then could afford to read the Bible in their own tongue, enabling the establishment of Christian culture and its sociological benefits (the Reformation, the rise of science as a disciplined, systematic understanding of God’s creation, etc.)
